The Power of Giving!
The multiple beneficial return for giving in charity.
It's not very often that I write an article such as this, so cherish it. I'm going to talk about the power of giving and sharing. Giving as in performing charitable acts, in the form of money, service, knowledge or a simple prayer.
My entire website is devoted to a rational, logical, mental technique called EffeQuest™ yet here I am, going to talk (preach) about the power of giving, about charity, donating, contributing to the betterment of the world at large.
It's not me. I'm not an absolute sceptic nor cynic. I make wise judgments, that's all. It's just that I know many people who have become disillusioned by the tricks and deceptions of the world and have grown sceptical and cynical because of that. But I'm not one of them.
The practical, pragmatic style of my EffeQuest™ technique means to attract and open the minds of the above-mentioned group of people.
Anyway, I'm not going to talk about EffeQuest™ for a while, and I'm going to present to you some stories; of my own and those of others, instances and incidents (they are essentially the same) where a charitable act results in a return to the benefactor, oftentimes a few multiples of the amount, quantity or quality of the money, service or aid afforded by them in the first place.
The first story will be of my own, and I think that's the best way for me to go as what could be a better success story than that which had happened to you!
It was Friday, the 13th of December, 2002. I'm no superstitious person, and I don't believe that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day for me (in fact, many Friday the 13ths in my life so far had been lucky days!). Since it was Friday, I had to attend Friday prayers, being a Muslim, and I had resolved to place $10 into the donation box of this one particular place of worship which I frequent.
However, on that day, since it was still the season of the Muslim festivities of 'Eidul Fitr, I was supposed to go house-visiting with my friends after sermons and worship. I had intended to go to a place somewhere in the East of Singapore where I live, but since I stepped out of my house (I live somewhere in the North West) a little too late, I thought I couldn't make it if I go to that place.
So I decided, at the last minute, to just attend sermons and prayers at a nearby mosque instead. And it was there that I deposited the $10 which I had intended, into a box labelled "Tho 'Amil Miskin" (which means "In aid of the poor", I think). I felt a little pleased that I had managed to fulfil my intention in the first place.
So I went about the rest of the (rainy) day ordinarily. I visited 4 of my friends' homes; and we had to travel in the rain, with umbrellas courtesy of my friend's mother.
I almost forgot my deed (which I was supposed to, anyway) that noon, and I didn't really expect anything so soon. It was only at night; midnight, in fact, that my returns came.
No, I didn't receive money. I didn't receive any help. Nor anything tangible at all.
In fact, I had to pay for what I deemed to be the providence that had come my way in return for my small act of charity.
It was knowledge.
That night, I checked my email. Allan Gardyne's Affiliate Programs Newsletter had arrived and in it, he recommended one very good ebook about Search Engine Optimisation written by a friend of his.
I read his review, was convinced of it, went to the site, read the sales copy, and before I knew it, I ordered it and downloaded it and read it there and then.
It was great material! I benefited from it, and felt that my investment of $29.90 (plus the $10 just now) was worth it. I used the knowledge in that ebook to help me write search engine-optimised article pages for this site, EffectiveQuestions.Com.
Now here follows story number 2.
I heard this from the mouth of my father's friend who heard it from his friend. My father's friend's friend, who I'll call Mr Lee (not his real name) in this story, used to work for a dying renovation company. But then, the boss decided to give it up and let someone else take over the ailing business.
Mr Lee decided to take over the whole management committee and implement some serious changes. Among others, he went against the so-called collective wisdom of the crowd, instead of cutting costs and saving funds, he decided to unquestioningly give away what money he had to individuals or parties who needed it, as charity.
The keyword here is charity. Of course, he wouldn’t stand in the streets and throw coins onto the ground for the crowd to take. He practised wisdom and mettle in doing his charitable acts.
After a few months of benevolent acts, as well as implementing some extra effective business strategies (of course), his company enjoyed a 400% increase in business.
This concept did not only work for Mr Lee. It worked for my father's friend who listened to Mr Lee's story too. He said that whenever he was in the spirit of giving, he'd experience some influx of returns (both monetary and other forms); but when he stopped, the wealth stopped flowing.
Is there some mysterious force at work here? I won't go into explaining that for you.
Have you heard about the Law of Tenfold Return? The concept is that for every dollar you give away in charity will return to you tenfold; e.g. $1 -> $10.
I think that whoever who thought up this idea must be very smart - it surely increased church donations during the time the fad was still young.
That time, it was called "Seed Money". And it received the same kind of controversy as "Indulgences" when that idea was thought up as well. But I shan't go further into that area.
John Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie were said to have practised this philosophy, and the "Law" had even been hailed as an "Ancient Secret" by some. Whatever.
But I know it is true in some ways somewhat. I think that quantifying the returns that you get (ten times) is limiting. And limiting the form of those returns to just money is stifling the power of this concept.
Why don't YOU try it for yourself?
I know I said I won't be talking about EffeQuest™ for a while, but, anyway, here are some good effective questions for your perusal vis-a-vis the power of giving (and receiving multiplied returns).
Before giving whatever it is you want to give:-
Why do I really want to give this (state what you're giving = thing)?
Do I really, honestly, sincerely want to give this (thing)?
Why must I sincerely want to give this (thing)?
What do I expect in return for my giving this (thing)?
WHILE giving whatever you're giving:-
How can my act of giving benefit the person or party to whom I am giving this (thing)?
Why must my act of giving truly benefit the person or party to whom I am giving this (thing)?
What if my act of giving truly benefit the person or party to whom I am giving this (thing)? What would happen to the person or party? How would the person or party benefit?
What do I expect in return from benefiting that person or party to whom I am giving this (thing)?
AFTER giving what it is you had given:-
Why must I feel grateful for the act of giving that I've performed?
How can I feel grateful for the giving that I've done? In what ways, and what can I do to show that I feel grateful for the act of giving that I've performed?
What if I am truly grateful RIGHT NOW? What would I be feeling, seeing, thinking and doing if I am feeling really grateful NOW? How can I get into the 'act' of gratefulness now?
How do I KNOW that my act of giving WILL return me a benefit that is far better than the quantity or quality of that which I've given?
What if I already truly know, RIGHT NOW, that my act of giving WILL return me a benefit that is far better than the quantity or quality of that which I've given? What would I be feeling, seeing, thinking and doing if I know it NOW? How can I get into the 'act' of knowing now?
Aren't these questions just powerful just by the sound of them? All you need to do is implement it.
Here's a quick action guide:-
1. Decide on what you want to give. It can be the most popular form, that is money, or it can be the 2nd most popular form, your service, your expertise, or it can be anything at all. But it MUST benefit the other party to whom you're giving it.
2. Ask yourself those questions above that you're supposed to ask BEFORE the act of giving.
3. Give it. Ask the questions mentioned above which are supposed to be asked WHILE you're giving.
4. Smile. Feel good. Feel grateful. Know that your returns will come, tenfold, hundredfold, whatever the Highest Power will allow you. Ask yourself those questions to be asked AFTER giving.
5. Expect returns, focus on it, feel it coming, then forget it. Let it go. When I say forget it and let it go, I don't mean that you should CANCEL it by saying to yourself, "Nah, it won't work. C'mon! Who am I kidding?"
DON'T!
When I say forget it and let it go, I mean that you should expect returns as "normally" as you'd expect a ball to drop to the ground if you let go of your grip or as "ordinarily" as you'd expect water to flow when you turn on the tap (assuming you've paid your water bills). It's the Law. It's the Natural Order of Things. Think of it that way.
You don't worry or fret about whether or not the Law will take place. It is the Law, and the Law is consistent.
In the words of Obi Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars: A New Hope":-
"Let go, (replace 'Luke' with your name). Trust me."

Car Donations and Charitable Donations
Giving your car away to a charity car donation program can mean a substantial tax deduction for you. After the new charity car donation rules elaborated in 2005, you get a tax deduction that is compatible with the actual selling price of the vehicle. This discouraged many car donors, but donating your vehicle to a charity car donation program can still mean good business for you as well as for the non-profit organization that receives your donation.
